Home Improvements that will affect your insurance policy.
You have decided to make improvements to your home. Part of the planning process should be to contact your agent and let them know what you are planning to do.
Whether it is a kitchen or bathroom remodel, new windows, room addition, gazebo, deck, new or different type of siding. Or maybe structural changes like removing walls, replacing the roof structure to allow for new roofing that weights more. Pools, hot tubs, play sets that create an attractive nuisance.
Will the house be vacant while these renovations take place? Maybe you have decided it is time to run a home based business, rent Airbnb.
All of these will change your policy and need to be reported to your agent. Something's like adding a pool or hot tub, that is not reported, can lead your company to denial of a claim or cancellation and sometimes both because of material misrepresentation!
What about if you "vacate" the house for extended period of time? Again, you need to report this so any changes that they require can be made to keep from a claim being denied.
We ask that our clients do an annual review with us on both personal and business policies to find out if they have had any changes. If you would like to have your insurance policies review please call me at 913-948-6590, I look forward to talking with you!
